Hello everyone! A few things have changed; I embraced a new chapter after my divorce and moved to Des Moines, where I’ve settled into my very first apartment. Although my budget is tighter than I’d like, I have some backup funds waiting for me. For now, I’m enjoying a simple diet of rice and vegetables, but that’s just a temporary phase. I’m excited to share that I finally have my own laptop and phone, ready to take on new challenges!
Since landing here, I have been enveloped in incredible kindness! Des Moines is not just affordable; it’s a surprising gem compared to where I once envisioned myself. My heart was set on New Orleans, but the universe had its own thrilling journey in store for me. I have submitted a few job applications, even though I hadn’t worked in years. One opportunity is just a delightful 20-minute walk from my new apartment! The moment I received the keys to my new home was electrifying. Navigating through the divorce and the move has certainly been a whirlwind of stress, but I am absolutely exhilarated to be stepping into this vibrant new chapter of my life!
Okay, let me lay it out for you, straight from the amusement park ride of my life. I hopped on the wrong bus, and instead of a tour, I got a scenic detour through the parking lot! Thankfully, a helpful lady swooped in like a superhero – but I still couldn’t board the next bus headed to ‘Somewhere Else.’ So, I flagged down a cab, and each passenger was like a character from a feel-good movie. To top it all off, I was greeted by a sunset so stunning it could give the sky a five-star rating on Yelp! It’s true, these folks are super friendly, but they also seem to have a PhD in minding their own business. And guess what? I stumbled upon the perfect place to live! It was a toss-up between a two-bedroom suite fit for royalty or a cozy studio closer to town, perfect for my “who-needs-a-car-when-you-can-walk” lifestyle!
I chose the two-bedroom, which is a bit further away than I initially preferred, but that’s perfectly fine. While it might not be a penthouse suite, it’s absolutely ideal for me. At least I have a comfortable bed to sleep in and internet access to keep you all updated on my life.
The bonus is that I’m treated to breathtaking views of trees, and oh my, it’s a dream come true! I urge you to dive headfirst into the adventure of finding the perfect apartment or house and securing a job before you make your move. This proactive approach will save you both time and money! Now, I can’t speak for the financial side of things, but having a place lined up is invaluable, especially if you have more than enough cash stashed away to cover rent while you search for that ideal job.
You’re not just sitting in that hotel room, because let’s face it: hotels can get expensive, and your stay is limited. While it’s nice to recharge before securing your dream home or the perfect job, the pressure of a ticking clock can be stressful. That’s why having those searches already under your belt before you arrive at your new place is the way to go. Plus, with your belongings safely in a storage unit and ready to be moved, you’ll be set for a smooth transition.
My first night in my apartment was marked by a significant thunderstorm. The intensity of the storm unsettled me, particularly given that I was on the third floor. Consequently, I find myself unable to sleep at this moment, but I accept this situation as part of the experience. It is a relief not to have to contend with the loud television or someone’s incessant talking. The persistent ringing in my ears has ceased, and I no longer feel the weight I once did. It is just myself, and I find comfort in that.
